Dua (ألدعاء)   saves us from sudden danger as a safeguard :

a.Bismillah saves us from sudden danger:  It is reported by Abu Dawood, he said:

Abdullah Ibn Maslamah told us ,Abu Mawdood narrated to us from  someone who heard Aban Ibn Uthman saying : I heard Uthman, he means Ibn Affan  saying I heard Allah’s Rasul (Sm.) saying: “Who says -

(Bismillahillazi  La  Yadurru Ma’ Ismihi Shayun Fil Ardi Wala Fis-Samayi Wa Huwas- Samiul Aleem” it means In the name of Allah, with His name nothing can harm in the earth and skies. He is all-hearing and all-knowing) three times, no sudden danger will come to him till morning, and who says that in the morning three times, no sudden danger will come to him till evening.

To remember Allah’s name at the time of going to bed:

Imam Bukhari narrated, Muslim told us on the authority of Abdul Malik, Rebi, and Huzaifa.  Huzaifa said: When Nabi (Sm.) goes to bed at night, he (Sm.) used to say – "اللهم بإسمك أحيا وأموت"

( “Allahumma Bi Ismika Ahya Wa Amut”, means “ O Allah, In your name, I live and I die”). When he (Sm.) wakes up in the morning, he used to say –

ألحمد لله الذى احيانا بعد ما أماتنا وإليه النشور( “ Alhamdu Lillahillazi Ahyana Ba’da Ma Amatana Wa Ilaihin-Nushur” means  “All the praise belongs to Allah, who made us alive after he made us dead and to Him is our resurrection”).

Dua for having a good child:

It is significant to recite Bismillah (بسم الله) during every action and  when having sex with  a wife:

 Abu Abdullah ismail Al-Bukhari said:

Ibn Abdullah narrated to us, he said, Jarir told us, on the authority of Mansour, on the authority of Salem Ibn Abi Al-Ja`d, on the authority of Kuraib, on the authority of Ibn Abbas, Ibn Abbas reaches with the Hadith to the prophet(Sm.) (it means Ibn Abbas got this Hadith directly from Rasul Sm. It’s a Marfu Hadith), he (Sm.) said: If any one of you having sex with his wife, he should say:  “ Bismillahi Allahumma jannebnash shaytana Wa jannebish Shaytana ma Razaqna” “In the name of Allah, oh Allah, keep Satan away from us and keep Satan away from what you have given us as Rizq i-e the coming offspring. Then a child is decreed between them, Satan can not harm him.

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith no-141,-

Dua at the time of distress:

Muhammad Ibn Ismail Al-Bukhari reported:

Muslim Ibn Ibrahim told us, Hisham told us, Qatadah told us from Abul Aliah, he reported on the authority of Ibn Abbas (R.).He said: Nabi (Sm.) used to pray at the time of distress- “La ilaha illallahul Azeem Al-Haleem- La ilaha illallahu Rabbus Samawate wal- Arde Wa Rabbul arshil Azeem.” لا إله إلا الله العظيم الحليم لا إله إلا الله رب السموات والأرض ورب العرش العظيم  ,means -“There is no Ilah but Allah, the Great, the Forbearing. There is no Ilah but Allah, Rob of the skies and the earth, and Rob of the Great A’rsh (العرش).

Dua for protection from excessive clouds, rain, and lightning:

Our beloved prophet (Sm.) said:  “Allahumma Hawalaina Wa La Alaina” means- Oh Allah, (make rain) around us, not on us.

My father, a Bangladeshi Islamic scholar, Muhaddith (محدث ) and Faqih,  Md. Yunus(Rah.) said: It’s a Dua for protection from lightning.

Reason for writing down Bismillah at the beginning of all Suras except Surah Al-Barah: Shihabuddin Ahmad Ibn Idris Al-Qarafi discussed in his book: أنها لما أنزلت فى النمل أمر عليه السلام: لآيكتب كتابا إلا أبتدى بها فيه فجرى الصحابة رضوان الله عليهم على ذالك كما هو اليوم “When Bismillah was revealed in Surah An-Namal, Allah’s Rasul (Sm.) ordered: Nobody will write anything but it will be started with Bismillah, So the Sahabas (R.), continued (Their writing) on that i-e with Bismillah as it is today.”(Ref.1)
